Events
Reach for the Rainbow is 100% self-funded, i.e. we do not receive government support, nor are we funded by agencies like The United Way. Reach for the Rainbow must continually raise funds to sustain our integrated programs and promote program expansion to address our ever-growing wait-list.
Fundraising takes many forms at Reach for the Rainbow. Funds are solicited from service groups, foundations, corporations (both cash solicitations and product donations), as well as directly from individuals.
Reach for the Rainbow's main fundraising activity is special events. The Fundraising Department strives to produce events that are exciting and entertaining for participants. Reach for the Rainbow makes every effort to develop long-term partnerships with the corporations who support us with event sponsorships, product donations and other contributions. Such partnerships maximize exposure and create a strong alliance with mutually beneficial outcomes.
Opportunities for further fundraising events are continually being sought. If your corporation is looking for a charitable partner capable of maximizing marketing prospects, take a look at the range of sponsor and partnership opportunities available to your company. A number of avenues are also available for individuals to support the agency.

Date: Saturday, September 18th, 2010 Locations: Toronto, Hamilton, London
Info:
The Walk a Mile in My Shoe fundraising and awareness initiative invites individuals across Ontario to pledge and participate in a walk-a-thon in support of Reach for the Rainbow and the values of inclusion and belonging.
With our Partners in Integration, Reach for the Rainbow will split the proceeds raised through pledges and community support with our affiliate camps to improve accessibility and existing infrastructure. History:
Walk a Mile in My Shoe was inspired by Bill Hiltz a long time participant/volunteer at Kenesserie camp in London, Ontario. He and his caregiver Joyce Balaz created and have hosted the walk-a-thon since 2007, and donated all proceeds to Reach for the Rainbow. With Bill and Joyce’s enthusiasm this year, Reach for the Rainbow will be taking the walk province-wide in an effort to continue its’ mandate that “Every Child Belongs.” Bill's Poem A set of standards by which to judge To their friends, they give a nudge When they see me come their way, They stop and walk the other way Or even worse, they stop and stare As if I'm stupid and unaware
If only they could know, that I care; How people view me -- it's just not fair! I feel they very same as other do, They should try and walk in my shoe. Life, not easy, when the body that you own Was given to you broken-down. They may be mean; they may be cruel; they may be bad; But most of all . . . they just don't understand. With some time and special guidance; We can have a great alliance. For an hour, or for a day; We all need friends along the way. So when you see me come along Try not to focus on what is wrong; I am a person just like you, Who needs and deserves a good friend too. Just walk beside me straight and tall And be the friend that I can call When I am lonely and afraid. Just remember what I've said: All you need is to understand; Do not judge just take my hand.
